What did you eat when losing weight?
It’s really important to eat according to your own needs, health issues and to eat the right amount of calories a day that will ensure you lose weight. There are many online free calculators that can help you work this out. They take into account your age, gender, height, current weight, your activity level and what size body frame you have and also how fast you want to lose weight. There are links to a couple of free calculators on my page called ‘useful links’. Once you work out how many calories is suggested based on your statistics – take them to your doctor and see if they agree that it is indeed a feasible and appropriate amount for you. We are all unique. Some of us have Diabetes, or may be Gluten or Lactose intolerant – so obviously you need to plan the right eating plan for YOU.
I am a Vegetarian by personal choice. I swapped back to being a full Vegetarian just before I began my weight loss started and I do think that it helped me lose weight. So my eating plan incorporates the fact that I do not eat any meat. Your plans will be unique and suitable for you.
From what I have read, you should not eat less than 1200 calories per day if you are female and not less than 1500 a day for males. When I was losing weight, I was eating in the range between 1200 - 1400 calories a day.
In order to make sure you are accurately counting calories..
· Buy a calorie counting book (see useful links page) – it has lots of instructions and helpful info in it.
· As some things are listed in kilojoules – a converter to calories is needed
(the calorie counter book lists both for foods). There are also so many of them online that you can use.
· Or get a calorie counting app and kilojoule converter for your phone
· WRITE IT DOWN, WRITE IT DOWN...OH DID I MENTION, WRITE IT DOWN! – yes write down all you eat every day
or it is too easy to forget to include something we have eatenIt is also essential that you weigh your foods.
Don’t get calorie amnesia.
I usually work out the night before, what I will eat the next day. I know what is in my cupboards and I find if I have already planned most of my meals, it makes it so much easier. This is just how I find it works best for me.
Remember to try to choose the healthiest of foods. Vegetables, salad, fruit etc are high in water content and make you feel full. It defeats the purpose if you eat 2 mars bars a day for your daily calories. I try hard to not eat processed foods wherever possible. I also do not use artificial sweeteners. Again, this is a personal choice.
