If I can do it - YOU can do it!
60 kgs - March 2012
__IN A NUTSHELL - ok..so how did I lose so much weight?
Well to be honest, it is so very simple that it’s almost embarrassing. I counted calories (I kept a daily food diary) and allowed myself 1200 - 1500 calories a day (you need to find out the right and safe amount of calorie consumption for your personal situation in order for you to lose weight) and for exercise, I worked out in chest deep water in a heated swimming pool. That’s it. But the essential point here is, I made a decision – a VERY STRONG DETERMINATION that I WOULD lose weight and I keep focused on this task, for HOWEVER LONG IT TOOK. You see, you need long term focus to lose weight. Forget your ‘quick fixes’. If you are significantly overweight, it is most probable that you did not get like that overnight. So you cannot expect to lose all that weight overnight either. It doesn’t help that everywhere online you see ads for the next ‘fantastic diet’ that promises you will lose 12 kilograms in 2 weeks. No! The diet industry is about making money and so often we grab hold of that next promise, the next ‘weight loss breakthrough’. It’s just not the way to lose weight and keep it off. I lost weight at an average of half a kilogram a week which is 2 kilograms a month (4.4 pounds a month on average). I know that may sound way too slow – but it works. And I did it eating REAL food. No potions, lotions, meal replacements or magic pills. I see many people use these things to lose weight, but when the time comes to make the transition back to ‘real’ food, they gain the weight back.
If you REALLY want to lose weight, you can. I cannot describe to you, the amazing feeling of losing 145 pounds (66 kilograms) and the reactions of people who have not seen you for some time. It is so worth it. But you have to make the mental decision that THIS IS IT! And slow and steady will win the race for you. It did for me. For more detailed info of how I lost weight, see the other pages on this site.
I want to extend my heart and love to you the reader because I know what it felt like to be severly morbidly obese and to hate the reflection you see in the mirror. And truly...if I can do it, you can do it. YES YOU!
